Humanity's Compass

Private, honest AI for families

AI that stays with a family, and tells the truth.

Humanity's Compass builds Compass: a private AI that remembers a family for years, keeps that memory on computers the family owns, and helps caregivers carry the load. Built by a working nurse in Daphne, Alabama.

The problem

Families can't trust AI with what matters most.

It forgets

Every conversation starts over.

Today's assistants lose the thread. A caregiver has to explain the medications, the school plan and the last doctor's visit again and again.

It makes things up

Confident answers, wrong facts.

When an AI guesses at a dose, a date or a diagnosis and sounds sure, it puts the people it serves at risk.

It leaves the house

Private lives on someone else's servers.

Health records, school records and family finances get sent to companies the family never chose to trust.

Families caring for a sick, aging or disabled loved one need the opposite: an AI that remembers, tells the truth, and stays home.

What Compass does

Four bearings, kept every day.

N

It remembers, for years.

Appointments, school plans, medications, decisions and the reasons behind them. Compass keeps a family's story so no one has to carry it alone, and so it is still there if a parent gets sick.

E

It tells the truth.

When Compass doesn't know, it says "I don't have that, let me check." It does not guess and present the guess as fact. That rule comes first.

S

Its memory stays home.

A family's memory lives on computers the family owns, in the family's home. It belongs to the family, it can run on local AI models with nothing leaving the house, and it doesn't depend on any one company staying in business.

W

It helps people, and people decide.

Compass supports the caregiver. It doesn't replace them. It reminds, organizes, explains and checks, and the family makes the calls.

Our story

Built in a real home, for a real family.

Compass was not built in a lab. It was built at a kitchen table on the Alabama Gulf Coast by a med-surg nurse who works the floor, raising four daughters with his wife, in a family that lives every day with disability and chronic illness.

He started with one question: if something happened to me tomorrow, who would still know everything my family needs? The schedules, the history, the hard-won lessons about what works for each of his kids.

Over eighteen months he built the answer himself, across several generations of AI models, and the family has used it every day. Compass has helped with school planning, medical appointments, money decisions and the small daily logistics that wear caregivers down.

"No one in this family will ever fear running out of time."

Who it's for

For the people holding a family together.

Family caregivers

Parents and spouses keeping track of care, appointments and paperwork for someone they love.

Families living with disability

Steady, patient support for learning differences and developmental disabilities, with the context that makes help actually helpful.

Families planning ahead

A way to keep what a parent knows available to the people who will need it, even when that parent can't be there.

Founder

Chad Hurley, RN

Chad is a medical-surgical float nurse at a Level 1 trauma center on the Gulf Coast and a four-time DAISY Award recipient. Before nursing he built and sold five companies. He has been taking computers apart since the Commodore 64.

Off the floor he designs AI that remembers, guided by the same habits as a good shift handoff: date every entry, never erase the record, read back every critical number, and know whose fact it is.

Partner with us

We're ready to bring Compass to more families.

We're looking for research partners in nursing, rehabilitation and disability, families willing to help us test with them, and grant support to turn one family's working system into something any family can use.
